The Veronia High School cheerleaders volunteered at a week long summer youth camp in their home town. With the new school opening up, it required moving everything from the old school, the cheerleaders put in numerous hours volunteering to help move. The cheerleaders secured a grant from the local True Value for paint and repainted the entire football stadium along with cleaning it up and getting it ready for the new season. The cheerleaders also spent hours getting the stadium cleaned and prepped to be painted. This little town that was destroyed and devastated by flooding in 2009, the youth in this town have stepped up and said “WE WILL SURVIVE and WE DID SURVIVE.”

The team from Belmont High learned about National School Spirit Day the week before, they realized they needed to find something quick in order to be a part of this nationwide spirit day! So after a full day of double sessions of preseason, the team went down to their local food pantry and volunteered, setting up the food pantry as well as assisting their clients as they came in. They went again bright and early at 7:30 on Saturday morning as well. They also plan to go down to the local Nursing Home the week of Thanksgiving and help organize the family dinner they host for all their residents, as well as many opportunities during the Breast Cancer Awareness month. “This is Belmont’s year to reach out to anyone and everyone we can help!”

For national School Spirit Day, I will be collecting supplies of needed items for the Ronald McDonald House. This wonderful organization supplies housing for families whose children are in critical condition at the local hospital. It is my wish to provide the RMH will any and all supplies that I can personally raise, so families don’t need to worry about their next meal or housing. I am hoping to collect pantry items, paper goods, gift cards, and any other items the RMH needs. I also pledge not to stop helping out this organization. In December, I will be volunteering my time to help at our “Trains at NorthPark”. Each year, over 80,000 people visit this enjoyable mini-train exhibit, and all of the funds collected go to the Ronald McDonald House.

In August, Leavitt Middle School hosts ‘Jumpstart’ for all incoming students. This is a time when students come to get their schedules, tour the school, and pay their fees. The Leavitt Cheer Squad volunteered for both days as greeters, tour guides, locker openers, and informational specialists. Each cheerleader must have demonstrated how to open the lockers at least 50 times each night. They explained to nervous incoming sixth graders that changing into the uniforms in the locker rooms wasn’t as bad as they believed it to be, and offered suggestions to those shy students on how to change discreetly in a room full of people. The cheerleaders encouraged the incoming students to join clubs, participate in school activities and be team players.

The squad from Scott County R-IV has really made a commitment to increase school spirit at their school. Their coach shares, “I’m a new coach and when we went to NCA camp, I asked my captain, “What things do you do already to promote school spirit?” She replied, “We’ve never really done much of anything.” This made me determined to helping the girls come up with ways to improve on this.” They have, also, just started their first football season in school history! The squad helped elementary kids out of their cars and buses on the first day of school and on every football game so far. They also cleaned up the fairgrounds after the county fair, and they are working on beautifying their brand new and very plain looking football field. They have started traditions and memories to cherish

They are also gearing up to assist in a fundraiser to help a wounded police officer pay his medical bills and rehabilitation.

The Bridgeton High School cheerleaders volunteered at the Bridgeton Zoo to help clean up the animal cages and surrounding areas. The Zoo had suffered some damage from a recent storm and the cheerleaders helped make the place look like new again! In the animal cages they created different play areas and made it feel like home for the animals. Rain on shine the team was going to clean the zoo, and that’s just what they did – it rained the entire time the first day. The team also held a cheer clinic and invited the local midget football cheerleaders (ages 4-14). They helped them with the proper technique for cheers, chants, motions, and jumps.

They also have a huge picture of baby Ryker, a home town baby who is in need of care from the program, and a piggy bank just for him – allowing those who came to support personally make donations. Working hard sharing Ryker’s story the “Farmer’s Market Fund Raiser for Baby Ryker” became a success! Not only did they raise $1177.84 to give personally to Alison, Randy and Ryker they raised an additional $1000 for the March Of Dimes, which now gives their Family Team a grand total of $6294 raised to date. www.marchforbabies.org
